How Do I Keep the Balloons from Deflating?

The truth is that balloons will start deflating as soon as they are blown up and tied up, even if you don't see any noticeable change in them right away. Therefore, to solve this problem, your goal should be to choose the type of balloon that best suits your needs and provides better conditions for your balloon to survive. There are 5 factors that can provide you with clear guidance on how to make your balloon last longer.

 

Factor 1: Balloon Size

Larger balloons tend to deflate at a much smaller rate than smaller balloons. So, if you can, choose a larger balloon.

 

Factor 2: Balloon type

Latex balloons are a naturally biodegradable product that begins to decompose immediately after inflation. Aluminum foil or plastic balloons will last much longer. However, the other side of the coin is that the latter two can cause more damage to the environment once they are disposed of and are much more expensive.

Factor 3: The gas used to fill the balloon

While a helium-filled balloon can produce a spectacular overall effect, you can be sure it won't last long.  A helium-filled balloon can float for 10 to 12 hours. Regardless of the material you choose for your balloon, helium will leak. Inflatable balloons will definitely last longer.

 

Factor 4: Balloon Treatments

Latex balloons can be made to last longer by applying one of two treatments or both, Hi-Float is a patented liquid solution that is applied internally to seal the pores in the latex, thereby slowing air leakage. Hi-float is not suitable for foil (mylar) balloons, it hinders their ability to float.

Then there is the Balloon Shine silicone spray, which is applied to the outside of the balloon to protect it from UV rays and thus slow down oxidation (decomposition).

 

Factor 5: The conditions the balloon is in

As a guideline, balloons perform best in the same type of environment that people feel comfortable in. The worst way to shorten the life of balloons is to expose them to direct sunlight and outside air. Under these conditions, balloons can only survive for a few hours. Therefore, if you are going to leave balloons outdoors, it is best to do so in the late afternoon or early evening.

In addition, aluminum foil balloons are more resistant to outdoor conditions than latex balloons.

On the other hand, inflatable balloons, even latex balloons, can remain unchanged for up to 5 days in the naked eye if you keep them inside, out of direct sunlight, and at a cool, stable temperature. This is not the case if you choose to fill your balloon with helium. They will usually last up to 12 hours before they start to drop.
